Interview with Gifted Child Magazine

Dr. Ruf was recently interviewed on Skype by Dr. Alex Davidovic, founder of the Gifted Child Magazine (http://www.giftedchild.me/magazine/). The topic centered on the importance of identifying at an early age whether a child is gifted.

Dr. Davidovic lives and works in Australia, and has only recently started up his magazine. He has asked Dr. Ruf to be a contributor to Gifted Child, and Issue #3 features this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYMM68Dnngc&feature=vmdshb.

Early gifted identification

One of the difficulties of early gifted identification is children like Albert Einstein that do not show above average abilities at a young age. My own child struggled so much with learning disabilities in reading writing and math that we feared she would not be able to attend regular classes, yet she writes very well today. Students that excel early are not always the ones that excel in the end.

Students that excel early academically isn't the point

This isn't about early academic performance but about the child's early interests. The kinds of things your daughter showed interest in , wanted to talk about, that's what will show us her promise. If you still filled out this form, you would see that shows us what she has in store.
